We finished the day 2-2 after a morning of very puffy and shifty conditions on day one of the Delta Lloyd Regatta.

With the breezes shifting quickly 15-20 degrees, and the wind ranging from 10-25 kts, the race committee did a great job of getting in four races quite quickly. We dropped our first two races before rallying back and winning the last two.

We won all of our starts today, but ended up getting behind in the first two races half way up the leg because of a big shift not in our favor.  We managed to stay close up the upwind leg and round right behind the other boats at the top mark.  In the first race, we almost passed on the first downwind leg, but couldn't quite get around and ended up behind at the leeward mark.  We had a better rounding, but didn't leverage out enough for the next shift and stayed behind the rest of the race.  In race two, we passed on the second upwind leg, but had a problem with our pole on a gybe and they rolled over the top of us to reclaim the lead and give us our second loss.

By now, we were pretty mad, and wanted to start putting some "W's" on the board and did so in the next two races. We led the next race off the line, and despite leading by two lengths at times, we just squeaked across the line a couple inches ahead of the other boat to take the win.

Race 4 was a race much more relaxed and in our style. We had a great start after giving them a penalty in the pre-start.  We extended our lead each leg to win by 1/2 leg.

We are disappointed by our start, but got some good notes from the day that we will bring forward to future days like this. Tomorrow we have more races first thing in the morning with a much lighter forecast.  You can check the results on the regatta website. http://www.deltalloydregatta.org/
