With rainy skies and fickle breeze, only the last three flights of the round robin were completed today at the
Toyota International Match Race for the Detroit Cup.  Because of this, our team could only sit and watch and hope for the right people to win races to secure us a high enough ranking at the end of the round robin.

Racing Abandoned For The Day

Early this morning the organizers decided that if quaterfinal racing hadn't started by 2pm, then the quarters would be cut from the program and racing would continue only for the top four teams. Because of that announcement, we were on the edge of the semi's cut, depending on how the people racing today finished.  As it worked out, we ended up in a four way tie for third place, and were second in the tie, giving us 4th seed and a spot in the semi-finals.

This afternoon, Dave Perry, who won the round-robin, got to pick against whom he wanted to race in tomorrow's semi's.  He chose Taylor Canfield from the US Virgin Islands, the number 2 seed after the round robin.  That left us racing the number 3 seed, Laurie Jury from New Zealand.

The race committee did attempt to start the semi's today, but after getting out on the race course, the wind couldn't settle down and didn't fill much above 3kts, so racing was called for the day and tomorrow will host the semi's and the finals.

The regatta is being recorded live online at

We really do want you to understand how it works and why we enjoy match racing so much.

PPS: Just got in pictures from our visit to Monroe County's Special Olympians, so thought we would include an extra photo over the next couple of days. (photos: (c) Tom Grime, August 2010)
