Team Maclaren Getting Ready For Worlds

November 27, 2011
Fremantle, Australia

We hope that all of our American readers have had a lovely Thanksgiving holiday and are getting over the over-stuffed belly. I apologize for the gap between blogs, but here is an update on what we have been doing for the last two plus weeks.

Team Maclaren

After a few days at home, post our Puerto Rico trip, we set off traveling again down to Australia. It was a very long trip as you may know or can imagine, but we all made it and arrived on 18th November to start our training here with Team Audi Match to get ready for the Perth 2011 ISAF Sailing World Championships.

We have had some very varied training conditions with regards to the weather. The first three days we sailed, the wind built as standard, up to 15-20kts in the afternoon. Then we had a few lighter air days as the morning gradient was very strong, keeping the sea breeze around 10kts. But it was back to normal yesterday with the wind at 18-25kts.

Tomorrow we are sailing in a coaches' regatta for two days. It is a regatta, run and umpired by our coaches, for us to practice racing in a regatta format. We have eight teams sailing in a double round robin format and if we have time at the end then there will be a finals and a petit finals.

Since we have been here, we have had a little time to get out and check out "Freo" as the locals call it. When we did get out, we managed to pick the hottest day of the trip so far (100 degrees) to be the day that we would walk around the town, but the heat is a dry heat so it ended up not being too bad. The girls also have gone to the local markets to check out the scene too.

I will write a wrap up of the mini regatta on Tuesday night to let everyone know how we faired. Then racing for women's match racing at the Perth 2011 ISAF World Championships starts on Saturday, 3rd December.

We would very much like to thank our Title Sponsor, Maclaren, our Gold Level Sponsors 11th Hour Racing and Laser Performance, and our Bronze Level Sponsors CarmeuseTrinity YachtsChicago Match Race Center and Sperry Top-Sider for their continued support of our campaign for the 2012 Olympic Games. We would also like to thank US Sailing Team AlphaGraphics (USSTAG) and its sponsors for their continued support. Also, thank you to our private donors. Please remember that any and all donations/contributions to our campaign should be made payable directly to either The Sailing Foundation of New York (tax deductible) memo'd Anna Tunnicliffe, or to Anna Tunnicliffe.

Sail Hard,

And as usual, don't forget, email us your questions and comments. We love getting them and sharing our love of sailing and women's match racing.
