Debbie grew up sailing on Great South Bay on the south shore of Long Island, NY. Her home yacht club is Sayville Yacht Club where she started sailing at the age of 12 and received the Commodore’s Award for two years running. She also received the US Sailing Sportsman’s Award at a young age. In high school, Debbie excelled in and out of the classroom, lettering in 11 Varsity sports, and receiving All-League and All-Conference Honors in softball.

Debbie went on to sail for Old Dominion University as a teammate of Anna's where she earned a BA in Education and received All American honors in sailing.

While in college she was a member of the team which won the Intercollegiate Sailing Sailing Association National Championship, as well as being voted team captain for two years.

After college Debbie campaigned in the Yngling with Sally Barkow and Carrie Howe from 2003-2008 and qualified for the 2008 Olympics in Beijing where her team finished 7th. She credits this campaign to learning many valuable lessons about tactics, boat set up and fleet management which she uses as the foundation of her sailing every day. Debbie enjoy's sailing many different boats including the Eliott 6, Farr 40, Melges 32, and J 22 as well as every once in a while steering a couple of events to keep her skills sharp.

Off the water Debbie enjoys spending her time camping, backpacking, rock climbing and snowboarding. Other leisure pursuits include reading, golf and windsurfing.
